Oakton Emeritus Focuses on Philosophy Courses

Gain a better understanding of religious philosophies by enrolling in classes offered by the Emeritus Program at Oakton Community College. All featured courses meet at Oakton's Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.

Suffering: Mystery and Meaning (PHL E67-71) explores the different ways in which both modern and biblical literature wrestles with the topic of finding meaning in suffering. Ten-week class meets Thursdays, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., starting Jan. 25. Course fee is $110.

Jihad and the Status of Women in Western and Islamic Philosophy (PHL E69-71) examines the chasm between jihad and the status of women in Western and Islamic traditions. Ten-week course meets Fridays, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., starting Jan. 26. Course fee is $110.

Oakton's Emeritus Program offers credit and noncredit courses, lectures, seminars, and tours, while providing a chance to share learning experiences with peers age 50 and over.
