The
Emeritus Program at Oakton Community College hosts Chautauqua 2008,
a series of eight public lectures combined with entertainment, March
10 - 14 at Oakton's campus in Skokie, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave.
Presenters
include Juan Mora-Torres, associate professor of history at DePaul
University, who will discuss how Latino immigration has affected the
American political landscape; Steve Levitt, founder of the Beatles
Ensemble at the Old Town School of Folk Music, who will examine John
Lennon's quest for peace; Raymond Wiggers, director of the Natural
History Exploration Guild, who will provide an environmental analysis
of the Chicago region; and humor expert Raymond Silverman, who will
explore the positive effects of laughter.
Other
presenters include favorite Emeritus instructors Karol Verson and
Douglas Gillette, award-winning poet and writer Sue Roupp, and wellness
expert Reed Engel.
The
series fee for Chautauqua 2008 is $45; individual lectures are $10

an additional $45 fee, take a tour of the new Hindu temple in Bartlett,
9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., Friday, March 14. Vegetarian lunch, religious
