Oakton Emeritus Presents 'People and Places' Series

Gain a better understanding of different cultures in a satellite lecture series offered by the Emeritus Program at Oakton Community College. The four-week "People and Places" series meets 1 - 2:15 p.m., Wednesdays, starting Sept. 7, at Classic Residence by Hyatt, 2500 Indigo Lane, Glenview.

The series begins with an examination of the gardens, palaces, and art museums of "Spain." "European Ethnic Music in America" discusses the changing role of music in Irish, Eastern Europe, and Jewish ethnic communities in the United States during the 19th and 20th century. "London" surveys England's capital through its gardens, museums, and architecture. The series concludes with an in-depth look at the traditions and arts of "South Africa."

In-district residents age 60 and older pay $15 for the lecture series; those who live out-of-district or who are under 60 pay $20.

Oakton's Emeritus Program offers credit and noncredit courses, lectures, seminars, and tours, while providing a chance to share learning experiences with peers age 50 and over.
