Several
new classes are being offered this summer through the Emeritus Program
at Oakton Community College. All featured classes meet at the Ray
Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.
Lincoln
and His Generals (HIS C01-91) considers the relationship between
Abraham Lincoln and his generals who had opposing ideas about fighting
the Civil War. This two-week class meets 10 - 11:30 a.m., starting
Thursday, June 17. Course fee is $30.
Sirens
(MUS C04-91) uses video and audio excerpts to takes a closer look
at famous operatic seductresses such as Delilah, Salome, Carmen, Venus,
Tais, and Lulu. This six-week class meets 12:30 - 2 p.m., starting
Thursday, June 17. Course fee is $70.
Beyond
Blessings: Bringing Creativity to Jewish Life Cycle and Holiday Events
(HUM S95-91) teaches how to create meaningful Jewish experiences that
both respect and add spiritual components for a modern age. This course
also considers how to incorporate customs and rituals, blessings,
stories, and new writings to bring a fresh perspective to Jewish holidays.
This four-week class meets 3 - 4:30 p.m., starting Wednesday, July
7. Course fee is $50.
Students
age 60 and over who live within Oakton's district pay half-tuition
for Emeritus noncredit classes. Those who have registered for an Oakton
credit class within the last three years or an Alliance for Lifelong
Learning noncredit class within the last five years may register using
the Touch-Tone system by dialing 847-635-1616. Touch-Tone registration
requires payment using a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover).
