Variety is the spice of life in courses offered this
fall by the Emeritus Program at Oakton Community College. All featured
courses meet at Oakton’s Skokie campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave.
The Fifties: Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper
(HIS T25-02) is a musical tribute to some of the greatest stars of
the 1950s. Session meets 7 – 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 1. Course
fee is $20.
The New Cold War (PSE B35-61) offers an engaging
analysis of controversial Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. Five-week
course meets 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., Thursday, starting Oct. 2.
Course fee is $89.
Mysterious Travel IV (HUM B29-61) explores the popularity
of the mystery novel and the use of fiction to better understand other
cultures. Eight-week course meets 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Friday,
starting Oct. 3. Course fee is $100.
Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down (HUM E74-61) allows film buffs
to share their opinions. Six-week course meets 1 – 3 p.m., Friday,
starting Oct. 3. Course fee is $75.
