Registration Now Open For Oakton ESL Courses

Registration is now open for English as a Second Language (ESL) classes offered by the Alliance for Lifelong Learning at Oakton Community College. These courses focus on developing skills for intermediate-level students, and are designed to supplement free ESL classes administered by the Illinois Community College Board.

Intensive ESL provides focused instruction in small classes at the intermediate level. The class meets 12:20 to 3 p.m. four days a week (Monday - Thursday), starting Sept. 22, at the Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie. The course fee is $200. Students are required to pre-register in person. To learn more about the pre-test schedule, call 847-635-1427.

Composition for Intermediate ESL Students (COM A61) helps prepare non-native speakers of English for the writing section of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) required by colleges and professional accrediting agencies. Classes start in early October at the Ray Hartstein Campus in Skokie (COM A61-02) and at Niles West High School (COM A61-04), 5701 W. Oakton St., Skokie. The course fee for each section is $55.

Other ESL courses offered during fall 2003 include Conversational English Practice (COM A50), Intensive Grammar Review I (COM A70), TOEFL Prep Seminar (COM A45), Improve Your Pronunciation (COM A29), and Citizenship Education (HIS A15). Unlike the free ESL classes, tuition-charge classes are closed after the first session.
