Enrollment
is open at Oakton Community College for individuals seeking career
opportunities in facilities management and engineering. Offered as
part of Oakton's newly revised FME curriculum are two associate's
degree options and two certificate options in facilities management
and facilities engineering. Classes begin August 23.
All FME
programs integrate course work with internship opportunities, according
to Chad Ganger, department chair. "Internships are an important part
of the program, because they provide real-life experiences," he said.
Ganger said a variety of companies have joined with Oakton to provide
internships, including Tribune Company, Baxter, Aramark, and S & C
Electric Company. Internships may be paid or unpaid, at the company's
discretion.
Consistent
with the growing demand for qualified personnel to manage and maintain
large and small facilities, Oakton's FME degree and certificate programs
are now designed to move students toward greater competency, responsibility,
and advancement. Course work includes technical and general education;
internships provide hands-on experiences.
