Earn Your GED Certificate This Spring

Register now for General Educational Development (GED) courses offered by the Alliance for Lifelong Learning (ALL) at Oakton Community College, in cooperation with area high schools.

GED prepares students age 19 and older to pass the GED Test. The GED covers five subject areas: writing, reading, social studies, science, and math. Most employers and schools accept the credential as an equivalent to a high school diploma. The Cook County GED Testing Service administers the test on Saturdays at Oakton's Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road. For scheduled dates and times, call 847-328-9795.

A variety of test preparation classes begin in late March. In addition to the pre-GED classes in English, reading, and math skills, ALL offers GED-level review classes in essay writing, reading, math, science, social studies, English, Spanish, and the U.S. Constitution. To enroll in GED test preparation classes at no cost, students must attend one of the following free sessions for placement testing, counseling, and registration:

  • Session I: Monday, March 8 and Wednesday, March 10 (attendance is required both nights), 6:30 - 10 p.m., at Niles North High School, 9800 Lawler Avenue, Skokie.
  • Session II: Tuesday, March 16 and Thursday, March 18 (attendance is required both nights), 6:30 - 10 p.m., at Maine East High School, 2601 Dempster Street, Park Ridge.
