Are you interested in expanding your career options with a high school degree? The Alliance for Lifelong Learning (ALL) at Oakton Community College now offers two easy and economical ways to reach this important educational goal.GED and Pre-GED Courses prepare students, age 19 and above, to pass the General Educational Development (GED) Test. ALL offers GED review classes in English skills, essay writing, reading, math, science, social studies, Spanish, and the U.S. Constitution. Test preparation classes begin in late September. To enroll in GED preparation classes, however, students first must attend a free session for placement testing, counseling, and registration:
- Session I: Monday, Sept. 8 and Wednesday, Sept. 10 (attendance is required on both nights; students should bring a calculator), 6:30 - 10 p.m., at Niles North High School, 9800 Lawler, Skokie.
- Session II: Tuesday, Sept. 16 and Thursday, Sept. 18 (attendance is required on both nights; students should bring a calculator), 6:30 - 10 p.m., at Maine East High School, 2601 Dempster Street, Park Ridge.
The GED is a credential accepted by most employers and schools as equivalent to a high school diploma. The test covers five subject areas and is administered by the Cook County GED Testing Service on Saturdays at Oakton's Des Plaines campus.
Evening High School is open to Maine and Niles Township residents, age 16 and above. Classes meet twice weekly (Mondays and Wednesdays, or Tuesdays and Thursdays), 6 - 10 p.m., at Maine South High School, 1111 Dee Road, Park Ridge. For more information, call 847-825-7719. Glenbrook residents (District 225) must apply to Steven Von Boeckman, principal of Evening High School, at 847-486-4709.
