Oakton
Community College this fall introduces a Human Resource Specialist
Certificate, geared for experienced working professionals as well
as those interested in pursuing a career in HR. This flexible program
allows participants to customize their course load to meet their individual
needs.
Classes
offered at the Des Plaines campus include:
Managing Diversity in the Workplace (MGT 232-050)
focuses on the challenges of today's workplace by using a variety
of case studies, exercises, and readings. Seven-week course meets
Thursday, 6:30 - 10 p.m., starting Sept. 6.
Employee
Selection and Staffing (MGT 266-050) covers topics including
recruiting programs, interviews, selection criteria, job descriptions,
and legal compliances. Seven-week course meets Wednesday, 6:30 - 10
p.m., starting Sept. 12.
Training
and Development (MGT 170-050) introduces topics including
roles and responsibilities of trainers, unique characteristics of
adult learners, and current career trends. Five-week course meets
Thursday, 6:30 - 10 p.m., starting Oct. 25.
Compensation
and Benefits Administration (MGT 267-050) gives students
the opportunity to learn the practices and functions of a compensation
and benefits coordinator. Seven-week course meets Wednesday, 6:30
- 10 p.m., starting Oct. 31.
Additional
courses include: Human Resources Certification Exam Preparation
(MGT 280-001), Effective Management Communications
(MGT 118-OV1), Effective Organizational Leadership (MGT 225-001),
and Negotiations (MGT 285-050).
