Children have fun while learning new concepts and skills at Oakton's Kids' College, a summer enrichment program for students grades K through 6. Parents who sign their children up before the registration deadline receive a 10 percent "early bird" discount.Classes are arranged in one-week sessions throughout July and August and meet for three hours Monday through Thursday at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines. The fee for each courses is $110.
Among the new courses scheduled for Oakton's Kids' College this summer are:
- Earth Science (EDES 83-31), for youngsters entering kindergarten and first grade, featuring activities related to the Earth's tilt, rotation, and core sampling.
- Campus Biology (KDES 82-31), for children entering second and third grade, designed to investigate the plant and insect life around the college campus.
- Math Brain Teasers (KDES 84-31), for youths entering fourth; fifth; and sixth grade, featuring creative tactics for solving math problems.
Children entering kindergarten and first grade this fall also may sign up for Writing Experiences, Science, Pond Life, Reading for Kindergarten, and Reading for 1st Grade.
Other classes designed for second and third graders include Experiments Around the World, Math Lab, Draw and Sketch, Reading and Questioning, and Space Lab.
Children going into fourth, fifth, and sixth grade this fall can also choose from Liquid Chemistry, Integrating Math and Science, Design and Sketch Like a Pro, Comprehension Games, and Squid Dissection.
