Designed
for experienced human resource professionals, as well as those interested
in a possible HR career, Oakton Community College announces the availability
of a new Human Resource Specialist Certificate. Now, HR professionals
have an easy and cost-effective way to update their skills - especially
vital since last October's deadline for compliance of the Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
This
flexible certificate program allows participants to customize course
work to meet their current job needs. Classes are offered at the Des
Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road:
Preparation
for the National Certification Exam for PHR and SPHR Credentials
(MGT 290-001) meets Wednesdays, 2:30 - 5:50 p.m., starting Feb. 11.
This eight-week course provides a review of materials to prepare for
the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and the Senior Professional
in Human Resources (SPHR) credential exam. The cost of this two credit
hour class is $116, plus a $25 application fee and $15 registration
fee.

This year's credential exam will be given in May. For application

Human
Resource Management (MGT 165) meets Tuesdays, 6:30 - 10 p.m.,
starting Jan. 20. This 10-week course covers topics such as managing
conflict, change, and diversity; staffing and training; and employee
evaluation and compensation.
Human
Resource Management Law (MGT 268) meets Tuesdays, 6:30 - 10 p.m.,
starting April 6. This six-week course covers topics in Fair Labor
Standards, Family Medical Leave, COBRA, HIPPA, Discrimination Laws,
and Harassment Laws.
Training
and Development (MGT 170) meets Thursdays, 6:30 - 10 p.m., beginning
March 4. Topics in this 10-week course include training responsibility,
working with training vendors, setting up an internal training program,
adult learners, and employee development.
