A specialized
course on nonprofit law and government relations joins an expanded
marketing curriculum this spring at Oakton Community College. The
following courses offered at the Des Plaines campus may be taken for
credit, or as noncredit classes under the supervision of Oakton's
Alliance for Lifelong Learning.

techniques and tactics. Topics include managing crises and public

various media. Course meets Tuesdays, 6 - 10 p.m., starting January
20.
Public
Relations II (MKT 244, Touch-Tone 04231) features topics such
as how to organize and promote special events; developing a community
relations program; creating publications and Web sites; and working
with TV, radio, and other broadcast media. Course meets Tuesdays,

"These
courses provide a solid foundation for any group that wants to improve
their internal and external messages, as well as how they deliver
those messages to the proper audiences," says instructor Deborah Popely,
president of Popely & Company Inc., a Des Plaines-based marketing
consulting firm. For more than two decades, Popely has worked with
a wide range of companies, charities, advocacy groups, and politicians
on issue-based communications.
