The Medical Laboratory Technology program at Oakton
Community College has received accreditation from the National Accrediting
Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences, a premier international agency
for the approval of educational programs in the clinical laboratory
sciences, College officials announced.
The College’s MLT program is approved until 2015, earning the
seven-year maximum accreditation.
The NAACLS is recognized by the Council for Higher Educational Accreditation.
Recognition by the CHEA affirms that standards and processes of accrediting
organizations are consistent with quality improvement and accountability
expectations established by the CHEA.
Accreditation is granted to the institution that assumes primary responsibility
for curriculum planning and selection of course content; coordinates
classroom teaching and applied education; appoints faculty to the
program; receives and processes applications for admission; and grants
the associate degree or certificate documenting completion of the
program.
Oakton’s MLT program is chaired by Lynne Steele. The College
has clinical affiliates with ACL Laboratories in Rosemont; Advocate
Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge; Northwest Community Hospital
in Arlington Heights; Rush North Shore Medical Center in Skokie; St.
Francis Hospital in Evanston; and Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical
Center, Resurrection Medical Center, and Swedish Covenant Hospital,
all in Chicago.
