Media Contact: Gian Galassi (847) 635-1810Oakton's Emeritus Program offers several music seminars-from the concertos of Bach to opera-to enhance your appreciation and enjoyment of the art. These non-credit classes meet at the Ray Hartstein Campus.Opera Without Tears (MUS E34-61, Touch-Tone 05101) previews the 2001-2002 season of the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
2-4 p.m., eight Wednesdays, beginning Oct. 3
Course fee: $140Verdi at His Best (MUS E56-61, Touch-Tone 02536) explores some of the musical and dramatic moments of Verdi's operas. Each week a single act from a different opera will be studied, showcasing the famed Italian composer's approach to music, singing and drama. 2:30-4 p.m., four Tuesdays, beginning Oct. 9
Course fee: $50The Beethoven Piano Sonatas (MUS E58-61, Touch-Tone 05191) examines how the great composer was able to express musically his human experience. The seminar will explore 32 works for solo piano.
12:30-2 p.m., five Wednesdays, beginning Nov. 7
Course fee: $60Haunted Classics (MUS E59-61, Touch-Tone 05209) delves into the spooky side of orchestral classics. Vivaldi, Bach and Sant-Saens are among the composers illustrated.
10-11:30 a.m., four Wednesdays, beginning Oct. 31
Course fee: $60In-district students age 60 and older pay half the listed fee. A registration fee of $5 is required for students under 60 and those who live out-of-district. Persons who have registered for Oakton or ALL classes within the last five years and have a correct Social Security number on file may register using the Touch-Tone phone registration system.
