The
aging process and its effects will be covered in a workshop sponsored
by the Alexian Older Adult Institute and Continuing Education for
Health Professionals (CEHP) at Oakton Community College, 8 a.m. -
4 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, at Oakton's Des Plaines campus, 1600
E. Golf Road.
"The
Aging Process: Issues that May Affect Your Clients" is
designed for a variety of professionals including chaplains, social
workers, counselors, nursing home administrators, marriage and family
therapists, nurses, and physical therapists. Four presentations will
be offered, including Neuropsychological Considerations in
Medical Conditions Affecting Older Adults, an examination
of cognitive changes related to aging; Advances in Dementia
Research and Treatment, a discussion of treatment options;
Pain and the Older Adult, an analysis of chronic
pain and its treatment; and Them Old Bones, a look
at the impact of arthritis.
Presenters
include: Brian Leahy, Ph.D., director of neuropsychological services
at Alexian Neurosciences Institute and a clinical assistant professor
at the University of Illinois at Chicago; Dan Kuesis, M.D., a specialist
in hip and knee arthroscopy and replacement; Concetta Forchetti, M.D.,
Ph.D., assistant professor at Northwestern University and director
of the Memory Disorders Center at Alexian Neurosciences Institute;
and Patrice Murray, N.D., C.C.R.N., the former clinical director of
the Alexian Brothers Pain Management Center.
Registration
fee of $100 includes a continental breakfast, lunch, handouts, and
