The
symptoms of Alzheimer's disease and its impact on family members and
others, will be discussed at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 6, in the TenHoeve
Center (Room 1610) at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road,
Des Plaines. Admission and parking are free.
"Alzheimer's:
A Family Affair," will be presented by Cassandra Friedman, Ph.D.,
LCPC, CADC, a psychotherapist in private practice for 30 years, and
a 17-year veteran instructor at Oakton. Friedman's presentation will
discuss the specific signs of the disease that has claimed more than
four million adults in the U.S., and how it affects both patient and
caregiver. The lecture will be followed by a Q-and-A session.
In
the last three years, Friedman has raised more than $20,000 through
her participation in the Memory Walk, sponsored by the Alzheimer's
Association.
Friedman's
lecture is sponsored by Oakton's chapter of Psi Beta, the National
Honor Society in Psychology for Community and Junior Colleges. For
