Comedy,
politics, and the media's obsession with public servants collide in
the Performing Arts at Oakton production of "American Daughter,"
Nov. 4 - 21, at Studio One on Oakton's Des Plaines campus, 1600 E.
Golf Road.
"American
Daughter" is Pulitzer Prize-winner Wendy Wasserstein's story about
the cult of political personality in Washington, D.C. Wasserstein's
play focuses on the negative media frenzy that follows a chance remark
by the female candidate for U.S. Surgeon General.
In connection
with the performance, Oakton will sponsor a free preview lecture entitled,
"Having it All: The 'Superwoman' Myth," at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov.
10. Karol Verson, a member of Oakton's theater faculty, will discuss
the pressures facing contemporary American women to balance personal
and professional responsibilities. The lecture will be held in the
Des Plaines campus theater lobby. Free parking is available in Lot

Regular
performances of "American Daughter" are 8 p.m., Fridays, Nov. 5, 12
and 19; 8 p.m., Saturdays, Nov. 6, 13, and 20 and 2 p.m., Sundays,
Nov. 7, 14, and 21. Tickets are $14 for general admission, $12 for
students and seniors, and $10 for groups of 15 or more.
Additional
performances include a $5 preview at 8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 4, and
a $12 matinee at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 10, following the free preview
lecture.
