Oakton Presents Wasserstein's 'American Daughter'
Free Preview Lecture Looks at 'Superwoman' Myth

Comedy, politics, and the media's obsession with public servants collide in the Performing Arts at Oakton production of "American Daughter," Nov. 4 - 21, at Studio One on Oakton's Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road.

"American Daughter" is Pulitzer Prize-winner Wendy Wasserstein's story about the cult of political personality in Washington, D.C. Wasserstein's play focuses on the negative media frenzy that follows a chance remark by the female candidate for U.S. Surgeon General.

In connection with the performance, Oakton will sponsor a free preview lecture entitled, "Having it All: The 'Superwoman' Myth," at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 10. Karol Verson, a member of Oakton's theater faculty, will discuss the pressures facing contemporary American women to balance personal and professional responsibilities. The lecture will be held in the Des Plaines campus theater lobby. Free parking is available in Lot A.

Regular performances of "American Daughter" are 8 p.m., Fridays, Nov. 5, 12 and 19; 8 p.m., Saturdays, Nov. 6, 13, and 20 and 2 p.m., Sundays, Nov. 7, 14, and 21. Tickets are $14 for general admission, $12 for students and seniors, and $10 for groups of 15 or more.
