Oakton Artists Capture Skyway Awards


Two Oakton Community College students have won awards for artwork entered in the Skyway Conference Art Competition.

Susan MacMahon of Wilmette received an Award of Excellence for her ceramic artwork, "Tall Vase," and Jacqueline Cook of Des Plaines won an Award of Merit for her drawing, "Amalgamate." More than 60 works from students attending the seven Skyway Conference schools were entered in the March 7 competition. Judges were Diane Thodos, an art critic for the New Art Examiner, and Corey Postiglione, art professor at Columbia College.

An exhibition of works entered in the Skyway Art Competition will be featured April 3 - 25 in the Koehnline Gallery at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines. The public is invited to a reception with refreshments at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 13. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Admission is free.

The Skyway Conference consists of Oakton, College of Lake County, Elgin Community College, Morton Community College, Moraine Valley Community College, McHenry Community College, and Waubonsee Community College.
