"Mark Palmeri: Paintings and Constructions" and "Jeremi Bialowas: My Travels in America" are two new art exhibitions opening Feb. 6 in the William A. Koehnline Gallery at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road. A free reception celebrating both Chicago-area artists will be held from 5 to 8 p.m.In selected works from the past decade, Mark Palmeri expresses visual poetry through acrylics, oils, encaustics (paint mixed with beeswax), and ready-made objects. His works have been featured in such noteworthy exhibitions as Art Expo at Navy Pier and the International Exposition of Sculpture Objects & Functional Art (SOFA) in Chicago. Palmeri, a graduate of the School the Art Institute of Chicago, has been a member of Oakton's adjunct faculty since 1990.
Photographer Jeremi Bialowas used a $15 plastic camera to capture the surreal images featured in "My Travels in America." His photography has been showcased in various one-man, group, and juried shows in Chicago, New York City, and San Diego. Bialowas, a graduate of Columbia College Chicago and the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, also teaches at Oakton.
Both exhibits will be on view Feb. 6 through March 21 during regular Gallery hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Admission is free. For more information call Nathan Harpaz at 847-635-2633.
