The
role of art therapy in treating children and adolescents will be covered
in a workshop, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Thursday, March 27, at Oakton
Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.
Designed
for parents, teachers, and allied health and medical therapists, "Art
Therapy: Building Trust and Finding Truth with Children, Adolescents,
and Their Families" features keynote speaker Pamela Matiosian,
ATR and founder of the Rice Child and Family Center in Evanston. Matiosian
is an experienced art therapist in private practice who also serves
as a consultant for the Northern Suburban Special Education District.
Workshop
topics include the incorporation of the "open-ended narrative" as
a therapeutic tool and assessment guide; strategies for building a
relationship with the client through art; and the role of "witnessing"
one's own artwork along with the client's work.
Registration fee of $125 includes continental breakfast, lunch, and
