The Peer
Tutor Training Program at Oakton Community College has won the
2003 Innovation Award from the Illinois Council of Community Colleges
Administrators (ICCCA).
Funded
by a National Science Foundation grant, this program trains high school
juniors and seniors who exhibit strong math skills to become peer
tutors at Oakton. Twelve area high school students completed the inaugural
2003 summer session of the program and have been certified as tutors
by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). They are:

school juniors and seniors who complete AP Calculus and are interested
in tutoring mathematics are selected to participate in the program.
The program is limited to 15 participants each summer. Participants
are paid for training and practicum and receive CRLA certification
upon successful completion of training.
The Peer
Tutor Training Program will be offered June 14 - July 29, 2004. Admission
for the Program begins March 31, 2004, and continues until all seats
