Oakton Baseball Coach Wins Skyway Award

Mike Pinto, Oakton Community College's head baseball coach, is the winner of the 2003 Skyway Conference Newcomer Coach of the Year award.

Pinto recently completed his first year as head coach at Oakton with unparalleled success. His Raiders had what he likes to call a "magical" season, taking second in conference, winning a Region IV Sectional Championship, and setting the school record for most wins in a season with 41 (41-11).

"This team learned to play the game at a higher level and how to be committed to something bigger than themselves," said Pinto.

The Skyway Conference Newcomer Coach of the Year award is presented to head coaches after their first or second year in the conference. Candidates are nominated and voted on by the athletic directors from each of the Skyway Conference schools: Oakton, College of Lake County, Elgin Community College, Morton Community College, Moraine Valley Community College, McHenry Community College, and Waubonsee Community College.
