The
Wee Hairy Beasties invade Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road,
Des Plaines, for two children's concerts. Performances will be held
Saturday, Jan. 19, at 12 and 2 p.m.
A
Chicago-based group that uses acoustic guitars and harmonicas, Wee
Hairy Beasties feature two members from the Mekons, a legendary U.K.
punk band. While playing songs about squirrels, worms, flies, ducks,
and turtles, the members of the Wee Hairy Beasties don cartoon animal
personas. Performers include Jon Langford (Cyril the Karaoke Squirrel),
Kelly Hogan (Marjorie the Singing Bee), and Sally Timms (Monkey Double
Dippey). In 2006, the band released Animal Crackers, a recording on
the independent label Bloodshot Records.
Tickets
are $7; $5 for children under 12; and $4 for groups of 15 or more.
The program is partially funded by a grant from the Illinois Arts
Council, a state agency.
