Robert Frank, Ph.D., assistant professor of psychology and chair of the Behavioral and Social Science Department at Oakton Community College, has been chosen by the International Dyslexia Association to receive The Margot Marek Book Award on March 21, during the association's annual conference in New York.Frank is being honored for his 2002 book, "The Secret Life of the Dyslexic Child," co-written with Kathryn E. Livingston and published by Rodale.
Dyslexia, a neurological learning disability, occurs in people of every background and intellectual level and affects their ability to read, write, and communicate. "The Secret Life of the Dyslexic Child" takes readers into the world of dyslexics, reveals the unique perspectives and challenges they face every day, and offers strategies for success.
The International Dyslexia Association is a non-profit, scientific, and educational organization dedicated to the study and treatment of the dyslexia. The award, named in honor of the late Margot Marek, an educator and academic therapist, recognizes outstanding books on the subject of dyslexia or related disabilities.
