BRACKETED TO OPEN JUNE 13 AT OAKTON'S KOEHNLINE GALLERY

Bracketed, an exhibition of works by artist Robert Stanley, opens Thursday, June 13, at Oakton Community College's William A. Koehnline Gallery, 1600 E. Golf Rd., Des Plaines. A free reception with light refreshments is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m.

Recently exhibited at the John G. Blank Center for the Arts in Michigan City, Ind., Bracketed includes acrylic paintings created by traditional methods, as well as pieces produced with computers. The 22 works in the exhibition explore the subtle collisions of life: chaos/order, despair/hope, love/fear, and computers/humans.

"In the tradition of the Chicago 'Imagists,' Robert Stanley combines recognizable images with abstract formations," says Nathan Harpaz, curator of the Koehnline Gallery. "Conceptually, he uses a technique that is similar to collage, where the artist transfers an image from one context to another environment to create a new interpretation."

Stanley, a professor of art at Oakton, received his master's degree from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y. His works have been exhibited nationally and internationally, and they are featured in several private and public collections, including those at the Museum of Modern Art in Chamalières, France; World Print Council Gallery, San Francisco; and the Embassy of France, Washington, D.C.

The exhibition can be viewed, at no charge, through July 11. The Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday. For more information, call Nathan Harpaz at 847-635-2633 or visit www.oakton.edu.
