Travel
to Confucian China on a travel/study tour sponsored by Oakton Community
College. Three two-week trips are scheduled in 2005, departing April
21, July 11, and Sept. 3.
Start
in Beijing with a walk along the Great Wall and a visit to the Forbidden
City. Journey to Xi'an, home of 6,000 life-size terra cotta guards
that protect the burial site of China's unifying emperor, Qin Shi
Huang. Travel to Qufu, birthplace of Confucius, and tour the Temple
of Confucius, Mount Taishan, and the Silk Factory and Embroidery Institute.
Finally, stop in Shanghai and visit the Temple of the Jade Buddha
and the Shanghai Museum of Art and History. An extended Yangtze River
cruise is available at an additional cost.
Oakton
offers two additional China tours, one that highlights life along
the Yangtze River, and another focusing on trade along the Silk Road.
