Jay
Cohen, accounting chair at Oakton Community College, is the
recipient of the 2008 Outstanding Educator Award by the Illinois CPA
Society (ICPAS). Cohen will be recognized at the society's annual
dinner, Thursday, May 29, in Chicago.
The
Outstanding Educator Award recognizes Illinois educators at a community
college, college or university who excel in their leadership and teaching,
and who have made continuous and outstanding contributions to accounting
education in Illinois, society officials said.
Cohen,
of Oak Park, started as an associate professor of accounting at Oakton
in 2002. He was promoted to professor and department chair in 2005.
At the College, Cohen also serves as a facilitator for faculty development
workshops.
"I love teaching," said Cohen. "Being recognized by my peers for something
I'm passionate about is quite an honor."
Founded
in 1903, the Illinois CPA Society is a professional membership organization
dedicated to enhancing the value of the CPA profession. With more
than 22,700 members, it is the fifth largest state CPA society in
the nation.
