CPA Society Honors Oakton Accounting Chair

Jay Cohen, accounting chair at Oakton Community College, is the recipient of the 2008 Outstanding Educator Award by the Illinois CPA Society (ICPAS). Cohen will be recognized at the society's annual dinner, Thursday, May 29, in Chicago.

The Outstanding Educator Award recognizes Illinois educators at a community college, college or university who excel in their leadership and teaching, and who have made continuous and outstanding contributions to accounting education in Illinois, society officials said.

Cohen, of Oak Park, started as an associate professor of accounting at Oakton in 2002. He was promoted to professor and department chair in 2005. At the College, Cohen also serves as a facilitator for faculty development workshops.

"I love teaching," said Cohen. "Being recognized by my peers for something I'm passionate about is quite an honor."

Founded in 1903, the Illinois CPA Society is a professional membership organization dedicated to enhancing the value of the CPA profession. With more than 22,700 members, it is the fifth largest state CPA society in the nation.
