The College Bowl team at Oakton Community College
has claimed the Illinois Fall Regional Tournament title with an unchallenged
victory on Friday, Dec. 5.
Oakton, the tournament host, won all four of its matches in the round
robin format. Competing schools in the competition included College
of Lake County and McHenry County College. Oakton won its final game
at the buzzer to secure a five-point victory.
Oakton’s scholastic team was led by team captain Cheryl Valloni
of Des Plaines. Team members also included Derek Newhouse of Skokie;
Pinal Chokshi of Des Plaines; and Ghislaine Feussom of Evanston. Newhouse
and Chokshi were both named to the All-Tournament Team. The squad
was coached by Gary Newhouse, dean of library and media services.
Oakton’s College Bowl team next competes in March at the Illinois
Spring Regional Tournament. The winner of that competition advances
to the state College Bowl.
College Bowl is an intercollegiate academic quiz competition in which
