The truth about love and marriage is revealed as the Performing Arts at Oakton presents the Tony Award-winning play, "Company," opening Friday, March 21, at 8 p.m. in the Footlik Theater at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.Written by George Furth, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, "Company" examines the humorous and painful complexities of love and commitment. The story centers around five married couples and their bachelor friend, who is desperate to find a bride until he discovers that love might not be all it's cracked up to be.
Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday, March 21 and 28, and Saturday, March 22 and 29; and for 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23 and 30. Tickets are $18 for general admission, $16 for students and seniors, and $14 for group and Partner in Performance (PIP) members may be purchased by calling the Oakton Box Office at 847-635-1900. (NOTE: The purchase of one full-price ticket to any show in the spring 2003 performance schedule earns a free PIP membership to Oakton's Performing Arts Center and reduced ticket prices to other shows. The public also is invited to a free preview lecture, "The Savvy Sounds of Sondheim," at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, in Studio One at the Des Plaines campus. Oakton's dramatic dramaturge, Karol Verson, will discuss how Sondheim's "concept" approach to the musical has impacted American theater.
