Oakton Stages Three Free May Concerts

Enjoy the sounds of spring at three free musical events at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.

On Sunday, May 4, at 2 p.m., Clearly Classical offers an afternoon of performances by student quartets, trios, duets, and soloists. Featured will be "My Flying Carpet," a guitar duet composed by Michael Adamczyk, a member of Oakton's music faculty. This work will be accompanied by an original video created by Adamczyk's son, J. Walt, a California-based designer, filmmaker, and graphic artist whose "Spontaneous Fantasia" technique utilizes the latest in animation and interactive computer graphics.

The award-winning Oakton Jazz Band, led by Carey Polacek, who has performed throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe, hits the stage on Tuesday, May 6, at 8 p.m. during Spring Finale. Renowned trumpet player Rob Parton, who has played with the Chicago Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, Doc Severinsen, Tony Bennett, and Mel Torme, will take the stage with the Oakton Jazz Band.

On Wednesday, May 7, at 8 p.m., the Spring Choral Concert at the Koehnline Museum of Art features classical, contemporary, and original compositions performed by talented voice students.
