Oakton Names New Cross-Country Coach

Des Plaines resident Mike Egle is the new cross-country coach at Oakton Community College, athletic director Dave Cole has announced.

A physical education teacher at Northridge Prep School in Niles since 1988, Egle brings to the Raiders more than 15 years of cross-country coaching experience. He also has coached teams at Prospect High and Maine East High.

"I'm looking forward to building an exciting program at Oakton," says Egle. "We have an all-state freshman [Terrance Terrell from Evanston Township High School] joining us this season, which is an exceptional and fortunate situation to find ourselves."

A former all-state cross-country runner at Maine East, Egle was named in "Fifty Prominent Local Sports Figures of the Century" by Pioneer Press and was named Chicago Area Runner Association (CARA) Runner of the Year for 1994, 1995, and 1998.

Egle graduated from Illinois State University in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in physical education. At ISU he was an athletic trainer and runner on the varsity track team. He holds the school record in the mile (4:07).
