DEATH PENALTY ABOLITIONIST TO APPEAR AT OAKTON

The public is welcome to attend "Death Penalty 101," a free forum on Thursday, April 11, sponsored by the Amnesty International Chapter at Oakton Community College. Robert Schultz, a leading death penalty abolitionist in the Midwest, will lead the discussion from 12:45 to 3 p.m. in Room 1606 at Oakton's Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Rd.

Among the topics to be explored are the human rights issues connected to the death penalty, including the cost and the "flaws" in the administering the execution. A specific emphasis will be placed on Gov. George Ryan's moratorium on executions in Illinois. Schultz is the death penalty coordinator at the Midwest Regional Office of Amnesty International in Chicago.

For more information, call Nicole Schreke, student president of Oakton's Amnesty International, at (847) 508-5859.
