The
Desi Dance Club at Oakton Community College celebrates the music,
dance, and fashion of modern Indian cinema in a live stage show, "Bollywood
at Oakton," 7 - 9:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, at Oakton Community
College, 1600 E. Golf Road.
Students
will impersonate their favorite Indian movie stars, including Shahrukh
Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Rani Mukherjee, in high-energy performances
of such popular Bollywood songs as "Ab To Forever," from the film,
Ta Ra Ram Pam, and "Hare Ram Hare Krishna," from Bhool
Bhuliya. The show's young "stars" also will be interviewed during
segments of "Koffee with Krunal," a light-hearted parody of a well-known
Indian television talk show.
Bollywood
is the name given to the Mumbai-based Hindi language film industry
in India, which produces more than 1,000 movies annually for an audience
of 3.6 billion people.
A
portion of the proceeds from this performance benefits Apna Ghar,
a domestic violence shelter that primarily serves Asian women and
children. Apna Ghar takes its name from the Hindi-Urdu phrase meaning
"our home."
General
admission tickets to "Bollywood at Oakton" are $5. For reservations
and more information call the Oakton Box Office at 847-635-1900.
