Jeffrey Edleson, Ph.D., director of the Minnesota Center Against Violence and Abuse, will present "Reflections on Emerging Practices With Children Exposed to Domestic Violence," a symposium sponsored by Oakton Community College's Alliance for Lifelong Learning and the Second Municipal District Family Violence Coordinating Council of the Circuit Court of Cook County. The symposium is scheduled Tuesday, Sept. 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Oakton's Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road.Open to all professionals, advocates and community members interested in the cultural dynamics of domestic violence, the symposium will feature discussions on:
- Adult domestic violence and child development;
- How to define and assess continued risk and endangerment;
- The barriers to collaboration and integration of services;
- Emerging programs, practices, and prevention efforts; and
- Integration of "Greenbook" recommendations into child welfare, domestic violence and court practices.
Dr. Jeffrey Edleson, a professor at the University of Minnesota School of Social Work, is a national authority on domestic violence. Drawing on his work with the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, he will explain the guidelines published in Effective Intervention in Domestic Violence and Child Maltreatment Cases: Guidelines for Policy and Practice (commonly known as the "Greenbook") and the federally funded Greenbook Initiative.
