Discover the Natural Riches of the Ecuador and Galapagos

The Oakton Community College travel/study program invites adventurous explorers to the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador. Three tours are scheduled for 2003: March 1 - 14, July 5 - 18, and Aug. 30 - Sept. 12.

The adventure begins in Ecuador with a tour of historical Quito, the 450-year-old capital of Ecuador, and a special lunch in the home of a local family. Travelers then will visit the famous market in Otavalo, known for its woolen goods and Indian jewelry, and enjoy a performance by Jacchiqua, the Ecuadorian folklore ballet.

A journey aboard the first-class vessel MV Santa Cruz to Baltra, one of the 30 Galapagos Islands, will include stops at Tower Island, home of an extensive sea bird colony, and Santa Cruz Island, site of the Charles Darwin Research Station, an international research and biological conservation programs. Each night visitors will enjoy expert presentations about the exotic flora and fauna of the islands.

Throughout the trip participants will sample native dishes at specially arranged meals and learn about the everyday lives and customs of the local people. For more information, including complete itineraries and prices, call Bea Cornelissen at 847-635-1812.
