Discover
the life and culture of Ecuador by participating in a travel/study
program offered by Oakton Community College. Excursions in 2005 are
scheduled: Jan. 9 - 22, March 13 - 26, July 17 - 30, and Oct. 2 -
Oct. 15.
Begin
in the 450-year-old capital city of Quito where travelers will experience
Jacchiqua, the Ecuadorian folklore ballet, and visit Oswaldo Guayasamin's
gallery of contemporary paintings. Take a day trip to Calderon, home
of native "bread dolls," and hike through the Cuicocha volcano to
view the lake inside before walking the street markets of San Antonio
de Ibarra to enjoy the famous woodcarvings.
Finally,
a seven-day cruise of the Galapagos Islands allows participants to
view the diverse wildlife and participate in hiking, snorkeling, and
educational lectures. Island stops include Baltra, home of the Charles
Darwin Research Station, and Bartolome Island to view Pinnacle Rock,
the most recognized Galapagos landmark.
This
trip includes multiple physical activities and is recommended for
people in good health. An optional trip to Peru's Machu Picchu is
also available for an additional cost. For complete itineraries and
