OAKTON COURSES EXPLORE THE PAST AND PRESENT


Oakton Community College's Emeritus Program offers three new classes on current affairs. The seminars meet at the Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie. Registration is ongoing.

Moments of Crises in Jewish and Christian History: From the Fall of Jerusalem to the Rise of Islam (HIS E74-71, Touch-Tone 07961) explores the early roots of Islam and how Jewish and Christian communities responded to the challenges of their changing world. This class meets from 10 a.m. to noon on 10 Thursdays, beginning April 11. The course fee is $100.

Presidential Misconduct (POL B06-71, Touch-Tone 07966) examines the controversial conduct of past U.S. presidents. The media's role in uncovering these "scandals" will also be discussed. This class meets from 9:45 to 11:15 a.m. on four Fridays, beginning April 12. The course fee is $90.

Understanding Extremism (PSY C08-71, Touch-Tone 07965) studies the common social and psychological traits of extremists, using the tragedies of Oklahoma City and New York City as exemplars. This class meets from 3 to 4 p.m. on four Wednesdays, beginning April 24. The course fee is $50.
