Students
and parents can learn more about the "ins and outs" of college financial
aid at two free "FAFSA Completion Day" workshops sponsored by Oakton
Community College. Workshops are scheduled: 4 - 7 p.m., Thursday,
Feb. 7, at Oakton's Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road, and 9 a.m.
- 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Skokie campus, 7701 N. Lincoln
Avenue. Free parking is available.
Offered in English, Spanish, Polish, and Korean, this program is open
to the public, especially families seeking financial aid for the 2008-2009
academic year, regardless of where students plan to attend college,
in or out of state.
Financial
aid experts will assist families in completing the 2008-2009 Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is required
for any federal or state financial assistance. Financial aid professionals
will utilize Oakton's computer labs to help families complete the
FAFSA application, which is available online through the U.S. Department
of Education.
Participants
are asked to bring all records and personal data needed to complete
the FAFSA application, including copies of 2007 income tax forms,
W-2 forms, and bank statements; Social Security cards; and driver's
license and immigration cards, if applicable.
For
information, call 847-635-1708, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m.
to 5 p.m.
This event is part of Financial Aid Admission Awareness Month, sponsored
