Oakton Nursing Professor Wins Fellowship

Carla Ferguson, assistant nursing professor at Oakton Community College, is the recipient of a $10,000 Nurse Educator Fellowship from the Illinois Board of Higher Education, College officials said.

Ferguson was one of two Illinois nursing faculty from a community college to receive the award. The Illinois Board of Higher Education distributed a total of 15 fellowships in December, to ensure the retention of well-qualified nursing faculty at institutions of higher learning that award nursing degrees. Ferguson joined Oakton full time in August 2003. She earned her master's degree from Rush University and bachelor's degree from Loyola University Chicago.

The Illinois Board of Higher Education first awarded Nurse Educator Fellowships in 2006. Margaret Gas, associate professor of nursing at Oakton, was an initial recipient.
