A
personal contribution by state Sen. Susan Garrett (D- Lake Forest)
will finance the education of two Oakton Community College students
next year.
Garrett
created a community college scholarship program that will assist students
attending Oakton, as well as Harper College in Palatine and the College
of Lake County in Grayslake, beginning in the fall of 2008.
Each college will receive $5,000 from the Garrett Family Foundation
Scholarship Fund to cover the cost of tuition and fees for two students.
"This is a way that I can personally support students in my district
who want to better their lives by earning a college degree," said
Garrett. "Given the spiraling cost of college tuition, community colleges
are a critical pathway for students who want quality higher education
at an affordable cost."
Oakton
offers more than 200 scholarships each academic year to ease the financial
burden of attending college.
