Oakton Offers GED Preparation Classes

Register now for fall General Educational Development (GED) courses offered by the Alliance for Lifelong Learning at Oakton Community College, in cooperation with area high schools.

GED courses prepare students age 19 and older to pass the GED Test, which covers five subject areas - writing, reading, social studies, science, and math. Most employers and schools accept the credential as equivalent to a high school diploma.

A variety of test preparation classes begin in mid-September. In addition to the pre-GED classes in English, reading, and math skills, Oakton offers GED-level review classes in essay writing, reading, math, science, social studies, English, and the U.S. Constitution.

To enroll in GED test preparation classes, students must attend a free two-night session for placement testing, counseling, and registration:

Session I: Tuesday, Sept. 5, and Thursday, Sept. 7 (must attend both nights), 6:30 - 10 p.m., Maine East High School, 2601 Dempster St., Park Ridge.

Session II: Monday, Sept. 11, and Wednesday, Sept. 13 (must attend both nights), 6:30 - 10 p.m., Niles North High School, 9800 Lawler Ave., Skokie.
