Student
clubs at Oakton Community College are engaged in a variety of projects
to help those in need during this holiday season. The community is
invited to support these service efforts underway at both the Des
Plaines and Skokie campuses:
Adopt
a Family Fundraiser - The Student Nurses Club is raising
funds to help a family they have adopted. A $15 pizza party is scheduled
Saturday, Dec. 15, at Giordano's in Niles.
Annual
Canned Food Drive - Student Leaders at the Ray Hartstein
Campus in Skokie and Black Student Union are collecting canned, boxed
and children's food for local pantries.
Casa
Central - The Spanish Club seeks volunteers to purchase selected
gifts for children at Casa Central. Cash donations also are accepted.
Empty
Bowls - The Ceramics Club sponsors this annual event, 10:30
a.m. - 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8 (Des Plaines campus only). Hundreds
of handcrafted bowls are sold for $12 each, with funds benefiting
the Maine, Niles and Northfield Township food pantries.
Holiday
Cards - The Black Student Union is providing cards and postage
for all those who wish to send holiday greetings to hospitalized children
and American soldiers.
Socks
That Rock - The South East Asian Club is collecting warm
winter socks for distribution to the homeless population of Chicago's
Lower Wacker Drive.
WINGS
- The Early Childhood Education Club is collecting personal hygiene
and home care items (cleaning supplies, baby items, non-perishable
food, etc.) for WINGS, which serves area women and their children
who are escaping domestic abuse situations.
Winter
Hat, Scarf, and Glove Drive - The Black Student Union is
collecting winter clothing items for children served by Family Focus
in Evanston.
World
Books (Books for Africa) - The Phi Theta Kappa honor society
is collecting college textbooks, trade paperbacks and children's books
to be distributed in Africa.
