Staged Reading at Oakton Probes Issues at Guantanamo

The controversial detention of hundreds of so-called legal combatants at the U.S. naval base in Cuba is the subject of Guantanamo: Honor Bound to Defend Freedom, a staged reading presented by the Performing Arts at Oakton. Performances will be held 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 11 and 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 12, at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.

Written by Victoria Brittain and Gillian Slovo, this reality-based production weaves together personal stories, court testimony, and political debate. The staged reading also examines the damage being done to Western democratic values due to America’s “war on terror.” Discussions follow each performance.

Tickets are $8. For reservations, call the Oakton Box Office at 847-635-1900.
