The Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at Oakton Community College will sponsor a series of interactive live satellite seminars on important health care issues on five Tuesday nights this fall at the school's Des Plaines campus.Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
The series begins with "America's Health Care System: How Good Is It and How Is It Changing?" (Sept. 30, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., Room 1829), featuring Dr. Arnold Relman, editor-in-chief emeritus of the New England Journal of Medicine and professor emeritus at Harvard Medical School. Other seminars include "The Ethical Frontiers of Biomedicine" (Oct. 14, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., Room 1608), with Dr. Vicki Lachman; "Keeping Our Promises: Improving Care at the End of Life" (Oct. 28, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., Room 1829), with Dr. Diann Uustal; The Young and the Ruthless: Youth Violence and Public Health (Nov. 4, 6:30 7:30 p.m., Room 1608), with Dr. James Alan Fox; and "Heads vs. Feds: The Great Debate" (Nov. 18, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., Room 1608), a roundtable on the legalization of medical marijuana with several guests, including Steven Hagar, editor-in-chief of High Times magazine.
