News Release |
Join Oakton Community College students in helping lift Third World families out of poverty by supporting a "Living Gift Market" from 9: 30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, at the Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road. The market is sponsored by Oakton's Mankind in Global Society Honors class, in collaboration with Heifer International.Heifer International is a non profit organization that allows people to purchase animals-including llamas, chicks, goats, sheep, and pigs-and give them to Third World families. These "gifts" offer hungry families a way to feed themselves and become self-reliant. Representatives from Heifer International will be available to answer questions and help with purchases. Prices for the animals range from $10 to $5000.
Students from the Mankind in Global Society Honors class also will hold a forum from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Room 1506 to discuss Third World poverty, why it exists, and how Heifer International offers solutions to fight the problem.
For more information about the "Living Gift Marketing," call Richard Stacewicz, Ph.D., associate professor of social sciences, at 847-635-1915.
