The acclaimed
Hubbard Street 2 international dance troupe takes the stage at 8 p.m.,
Saturday, May 15, in a benefit performance for the Oakton Community
College Educational Foundation. A reception featuring hors d'oeuvres
and dessert follows the performance at Oakton's Performing Arts Center,
1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.
A vibrant
company of six dancers, 17 to 25 years old, Hubbard Street 2 will
perform works by some of the nation's most gifted choreographers.
Led by artistic director Julie Nakagawa Böttcher, Hubbard Street 2
combines elements of theatrical, jazz, modern, and classical dance,
and performs at schools, community centers, and theaters for more
than 35,000 people each year. Hubbard Street 2 has performed in Johannesburg,
South Africa, as well as at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing
Arts in Washington, D.C.
Tickets
are $35 with proceeds supporting scholarships, programs, and projects
that promote Oakton's academic mission. This performance is funded
in part by a grant from the Illinois Art Council, a state agency,
and support from Bank One and Sodexho Dining Services.
