Performing Arts Celebrates the Spirit of Chicago with Inland Romance

Performing Arts at Oakton opens its exciting fall 2001 season with Inland Romance, a celebration of the indomitable spirit of Chicago inspired by the vibrant, urban paintings of artist John Himmelfarb.

Performed against a backdrop of the artist's work on exhibit at Oakton's William A. Koehnline Gallery, Inland Romance features the words of some of Chicago's greatest writers, including Nelson Algren, Carl Sandburg, Studs Terkel and Mike Royko. Conceived and directed by Karol Verson, this original production integrates several performance techniques, including improvisation, reader's theater and character monologues, in tribute to the "City of the Big Shoulders."

Performances are scheduled at 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13 & 20, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14 & 21. Tickets at $8 for general admission and $5 for students and seniors may be purchased at the door or in advance by calling the Box Office at (847) 635-1900. For group discounts, call (847) 635-1457.
