The Early Childhood Demonstration (ECE) Center at Oakton Community College is seeking mature volunteers to take part in an Aging Reminiscence Project designed to promote vital aging via language and literacy activities.Volunteers will tell stories, read, and engage in other literacy activities at one of Oakton's two childcare centers. Volunteers will work with two- to five-year-old children on Oakton's Des Plaines campus, and three- to five-year-olds on the Ray Hartstein Campus in Skokie. Participants should be able to contribute at least two hours of time, once a week, from January through June 2003. Training is provided and volunteers may be reimbursed for minimal travel expenses.
Oakton's ECE centers are part of the regular academic program in which Oakton students receive course credit for lab experiences. Both ECE facilities are participating in the Aging Reminiscence Project in collaboration with the Suburban Area Agency on Aging.
