Explore
career opportunities in the growing field of logistics at "Going
Places," 8 a.m. - 3 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, a free conference
hosted by Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.
Designed for industry experts, high school counselors, career advisors,
and higher education faculty, the conference will be simulcast at
three additional locations: Harold Washington College, Chicago;
Prairie State College, Chicago Heights; and Waubonsee Community
College, Sugar Grove.
"There
is a critical need for logistics professionals today," says Lynn Seinfeld,
director of adult and professional education at Oakton. "This conference
will give educators a definite edge in recognizing new opportunities
for skilled workers in many related fields."
The
keynote speaker is Michael Crum, Ph.D., professor of logistics
and supply chain management at Iowa State University. Additional presenters
include Robert Shaunnessey, executive director of the Warehouse
Education Research Council, a professional industry group; Harrie
Swinkels, CEO of SSI Schaefer, and Edward Grant, senior
project manager for Walgreens, who will discuss technological advances
in warehousing; and Robert Gernon, vice president of Pacer
Global Logistics, an Ohio-based provider of third-party logistics.
The seminar also features a roundtable discussion at each location.
Participants at the Oakton location are invited to visit an equipment
display provided by LXE, Inc.
Registration
for the "Going Places" conference at Oakton is free, but reservations
are required. Lunch will be served, and continuing education credits
are available for eligible participants. The conference is made possible
through a Workforce Investment Incentive Grant provided by the Illinois
Community College Board, and funded in part by the Workforce Boards
of Metropolitan Chicago and participating community colleges.
